SkyWay runs ‘Clued-Up’, a sexual health peer-education programme; which aims to reduce teenage pregnancy rates and improve sexual health among young people in Hackney.

The programme was developed with young people in response to their concerns about how going to a GP Practice or pharmacy for condoms and sexual health information was not effective for young people.

In ’05 18 young people (4 were young parents) were trained as Sexual Health Peer Educators. They completed 200 street interviews with young people about sexual health and relationships and identified young people’s needs in this area.

Young people designed and delivered workshops for young people in school and community settings in Hackney. They made presentations at conferences and events on sexual health and teenage pregnancy.

The service provided counselling and condoms to 69 young people in its first 6 months. City & Hackney Primary Care Trust’s Health & Social Care Commissioning Group cited SkyWay’s Peer-Education Sexual Health Programme as a best practice model.
